Welcome to the website for St Angela’s Academy of Music, a music school situated at the Ursuline Convent in Thurles, Co Tipperary.

The Ursuline has been a centre of musical learning for over two centuries, while St Angela’s Academy as we know it today was established in the early 1990s.

Almost 350 students are currently enrolled in the school but over 500 lessons are delivered each week, due to many students studying multiple instruments.

The school is run by Sr Cecilia O’Dwyer and employs more than 20 teachers in all disciplines of music, including piano, voice, strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, traditional, pre-instrumental and theory.

St Angela’s Academy is affiliated to the Ursuline Secondary School and the Scoil Angela Primary School, all located on the same school grounds. However, the Academy is open to anyone who wishes to learn music and is delighted to accept external students from the surrounding area. Adults are also more than welcome – it is never too late to start!

The school’s philosophy is to provide a musical education in an environment which encourages students to explore, enjoy and perform music to the best of their potential.

Music reaches a dimension of the soul that no other medium can reach.
