St Angela’s Academy has just completed the first month of term and both staff and students have commenced music lessons as if there was no long break! There has been a good intake of new students ranging from Pre-instrumental (Cara Awards) to Senior Certificate and hopefully being a student of St Angela’s Academy of Music will be an enjoyable and good experience for all concerned. Many are preparing for music exams (both practical and theory) in November and time is passing all too quickly hence extra practice is necessary to reach the expected standard. We send all best wishes to our past music students and hope they are adjusting well to life after secondary school.
St Angela’s Academy of Music reopens tomorrow, Monday 4th September, for the new academic year 2017-2018. As we look forward to another busy year, it is fitting to look back over the past year and acknowledge the admirable achievements of our music students.
Two trophies were awarded in May 2017. Every year, the Hyland Perpetual Cup is given to the 6th Year Ursuline student who has achieved most musically during her time in secondary school. Cliodhna Heenan was the recipient this year, with Eva Buckley highly recommended. The Dwan Silver Salver is given to the student who achieves the highest mark in any instrument at Grade 8, Senior Cert or Gold Medal level. This honour went to the well-deserving Caitriona Timmins.
In addition to these trophies, many of our students were recognised externally in the RIAM High Achievers Awards and the LSMD Excellence Awards. These were:
RIAM High Achievers Awards 2016-2017
Katie Taylor (twice)
Esha Hourigan Clancy
LSMD Excellence Awards 2016-2017
Laura Jane Hickey
We congratulate all of these students on their fantastic achievements over the past year. And now, on to 2017-2018!
St Angela’s Academy of Music opens today after the Christmas break. We hope all students are rested and rejuvenated for an eventful term ahead.
From now until Easter, and further to the summer break, the school will be extremely busy – there will be pre-Easter and post-Easter exam sessions with the RIAM and LSMD, as well as examinations with the Associated Board and Comhaltas. Much-anticipated events in the school calendar will include the Secondary School Musical Evening and the Primary School & External Musical Evening. Many of our students will also participate in Junior and Leaving Cert practicals as part of their state exams.
There will be plenty happening so do check back in for further updates!
September has arrived and that means the halls and rooms of St Angela’s Academy are filled with music once more! Lessons begin today, Monday 5th, and will run for thirty weeks across the school year until May. We wish a warm welcome back to our returning students and extend enthusiastic greetings to all students just starting with us this term.
Tuition here at the school is available across a wide range of disciplines, including piano, voice, strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, traditional, pre-instrumental and theory. If you wish to book a place for any of these lessons/classes, be sure to contact the office on (0504) 20654 or firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
We look forward to a very busy year ahead. Do continue to check back for updates on news and events throughout the year!
