St Angela’s Academy of Music is delighted to be able to offer group singing at primary school level. Our Junior Choir is designed for young students (boys and girls) who are interested in singing and is open to students from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Class. This choir aims to encourage and develop young voices in a fun and enjoyable environment and is a good preparation for individual voice training at secondary school level.
The Junior Choir provides young singers with an opportunity to learn vocal technique, develop their ear and cultivate their sight-reading skills. It covers a wide variety of songs that are within a range suitable for young voices, and students do songs in unison and harmony.
Ms Marina Buckley, a teacher of both voice and harp here at the Academy, is responsible for this choir. She has vast experience in vocal training and brings great enthusiasm to her classes.
Voice study is an extremely popular choice at St Angela’s Academy and many of our voice students are involved in the choirs at the Ursuline Secondary School. There are two extra-curricular choirs, the Cecilian Choir and the Chamber Choir.
The Cecilian Choir is open to anyone who wants to join and has a frequent presence at the school’s liturgical celebrations. The Chamber Choir is of a more advanced standard and therefore auditions are required to ensure the students are capable of the intricate levels of singing. Most of the Chamber Choir pieces are sung a capella. Both choirs perform at the secondary school musical evening every year, while the Chamber Choir competes regularly in competitions, achieving great success under the baton of Ms Joan Butler.
