  • It will cover a wide variety of songs that are within a range suitable for young voices.
  • Students will do songs in unison and harmony.

Ms Marina Buckley, a teacher of voice and harp here at the Academy, will be responsible for this class. She has vast experience in vocal training and brings great enthusiasm to her classes.

New percussion teacher at St Angela’s

St Angela’s Academy of Music would like to extend a warm welcome to the newest addition to our teaching staff. Mr Owen Sutton will be joining the music department this September 2017 to teach percussion.

Mr Sutton studied percussion at the Newpark School of Jazz, Dublin, and obtained a Bachelor of Music degree at University College Cork. He has taught percussion for many years and also performs frequently around the country as a member of a 10-piece outfit, playing at weddings, corporate events and other functions.

Students who are interested in taking percussion lessons with Mr Sutton this coming academic year should contact the music school office before August 1st by phone (0504 20654) or via email (stangelasacademyofmusic@gmail.com).

We are delighted to be able to offer tuition in this vibrant area of musical education and look forward to a highly rhythmic 2017/2018!

Winding down for the year!

We have come to the end of the 2016/2017 academic year and we’re sure everyone will agree that we just don’t know where the time went! It was an extremely busy year and we are very proud of all that our students have achieved.

Congratulations to our new beginners, you have taken the first exciting step on your musical journey.

Well done to all students who sat exams, some of whom took up to three or four across the year! It is a brave thing to perform before an examiner and we hope you are pleased with your progress and results.

Farewell to our departing Leaving Cert students – may music continue to play a meaningful role in your lives wherever you head next.

Thank you to all our teachers for your guidance and encouragement towards your students throughout the year. The coming summer holidays are well deserved!

The academic year 2017/2018 will commence on Monday 4th September 2017. It is important to submit the relevant application forms (accessed at this link) as soon as possible in order to ensure a place on next year’s school list. Primary School & External Musical Evening 2017

Yesterday, Wednesday 29th March, was a special night in the school calendar as the Primary School & External Musical Evening took place in the Scoil Angela Primary School. Almost sixty students took part in this lovely evening of entertainment, ranging from those who only began learning last September to those who are climbing to the highest levels in their chosen instruments. There were a variety of performances on piano, harp, violin, cello, clarinet, trumpet, tin whistle and concertina. Massive congratulations to everyone who participated!

Secondary School Musical Evening 2017

The Secondary School Musical Evening took place last Tuesday 21st March in the gym hall of the Ursuline Secondary School. It was a fantastic night’s entertainment, with performances from the Intermediate Orchestra, Senior Orchestra, First Year Choir, Second Year Choir, Cecilian Choir, Chamber Choir, Intermediate Traditional Group, Senior Traditional Group, and numerous soloists on a wide range of instruments, including piano, harp, violin, cello, flute, oboe and voice.

This annual musical evening is an opportunity for the students to demonstrate how much they have achieved in the past school year, and their hard work was evident in the extremely high standard of performance last Tuesday night. An event like this cannot be successful without the support of the music teachers, in particular Mary-Rose McNally (who accompanied many of the soloists and conducted the orchestras), Joan Butler (who led all the choirs), and Kathleen Nesbitt (who played with the traditional groups). Sincere thanks also to the principal of the Ursuline, Mary Butler, who introduced each of the acts throughout the concert.

Huge congratulations to everyone involved!

Welcome back to a new term

St Angela’s Academy of Music opens today after the Christmas break. We hope all students are rested and rejuvenated for an eventful term ahead.

From now until Easter, and further to the summer break, the school will be extremely busy – there will be pre-Easter and post-Easter exam sessions with the RIAM and LSMD, as well as examinations with the Associated Board and Comhaltas. Much-anticipated events in the school calendar will include the Secondary School Musical Evening and the Primary School & External Musical Evening. Many of our students will also participate in Junior and Leaving Cert practicals as part of their state exams.

There will be plenty happening so do check back in for further updates!

RIAM Gala Concert and End of Term

The Royal Irish Academy of Music held its annual Gala High Achievers Concert last Wednesday 7th December and we are delighted to say that the Ursuline Secondary School’s Chamber Choir was one of the performers on the day. In the academic year 2015-2016, over 40,000 musicians took part in the RIAM Local Centre examinations. 300 were deemed High Achievers and a selection of these performed in regional concerts around the 32 counties in October and November of this year. Only 10 were chosen to participate in last Wednesday’s Gala Concert at the Royal Irish Academy in Dublin, therefore it was a fantastic achievement on the part of the Chamber Choir to have been selected for performance. Very well done!

We would also like to say congratulations to all students involved in the recent music examinations here at St Angela’s in November. The standard was very high, with many distinctions, and we hope you were pleased with your results.

Finally, we extend warmest wishes to all students, parents and staff as we wind down for the Christmas break. The school will reopen on Monday 9th January 2017. We bid everyone a peaceful Christmas and all the very best for the New Year!

RIAM High Achievers Concert 2016

The Royal Irish Academy of Music is hosting a series of concerts this November to showcase performances from the students who received High Achievers Awards in the academic year 2015-2016.

St Angela’s Academy of Music will be represented at the Munster Concert and Awards Ceremony, which is taking place at 3pm this Sunday 13th November in the Lime Tree Theatre in Limerick. Naomi Ryan will perform in the category of Musical Theatre, while the Ursuline Secondary School’s Chamber Choir will also present two songs. We wish them luck in their performances and congratulate them again on their outstanding achievements!

A new school year

September has arrived and that means the halls and rooms of St Angela’s Academy are filled with music once more! Lessons begin today, Monday 5th, and will run for thirty weeks across the school year until May. We wish a warm welcome back to our returning students and extend enthusiastic greetings to all students just starting with us this term.

Tuition here at the school is available across a wide range of disciplines, including piano, voice, strings, woodwind, brass, percussion, traditional, pre-instrumental and theory. If you wish to book a place for any of these lessons/classes, be sure to contact the office on (0504) 20654 or stangelasacademyofmusic@gmail.com as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.

We look forward to a very busy year ahead. Do continue to check back for updates on news and events throughout the year!
