Violin Workshop with past pupil Máiréad Nesbitt

We would just like to draw your attention to an exciting event happening on Saturday 9th September at Bookworm Bookshop on Parnell Street, just off the top of Liberty Square in Thurles. Máiréad Nesbitt, fiddler with the group Celtic Woman, will be there from 3pm to 5pm that day, hosting a violin workshop in which she will launch and demonstrate her new range of violins. Máiréad is a past pupil of St Angela’s Academy and her ties to our school are still strong with her mother, Kathleen Nesbitt, running our traditional music department.

This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from a world-renowned musician and should not be missed! All violinists from beginners to advanced players are very welcome.

Be sure to check Bookworm’s Facebook page for any further updates!

New Junior Choir at St Angela’s Academy

Arising from an interest in voice training from primary school parents, we are thrilled to announce that we are forming a Junior Choir at St Angela’s Academy of Music.  It is designed for young students (boys and girls) who are interested in singing and will be open to students from 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th Class.

  • The Junior Choir will aim to encourage and develop young voices in a fun and enjoyable environment and will be a good preparation for individual voice training at secondary school level.
  • It will provide young singers with an opportunity to learn vocal technique, develop their ear and cultivate their sight-reading skills.
  • It will cover a wide variety of songs that are within a range suitable for young voices.
  • Students will do songs in unison and harmony.

Ms Marina Buckley, a teacher of voice and harp here at the Academy, will be responsible for this class. She has vast experience in vocal training and brings great enthusiasm to her classes.

For this venture to be viable a minimum of 20 students is required. The class will take place on a Monday evening from 3:30pm to 4:15pm and the fee for this class is €90 per annum. If you wish your child to take part, please complete the application form in the Enrolment section under the Tuition menu on this website. Forms should be handed into the music school office by September 1st in order to secure a place.

We are delighted to be able to offer this new class and expect it to be a popular choice for the coming 2017/2018 school year!
